“IT IS BETTER TO TRUST IN THE LORD THAN TO PUT CONFIDENCE IN MAN”

 

(I) CONFIDENCE IN MAN

1. Natural tendency

a) Trusting in man

b) Trusting in princes (Psalm 118:9)


2. Danger of trusting in man

(King David’s example)

a) Trusting in a companion (Psalm 55:13)

b) A man my equal (Psalm 55:13)

c) Walked together (Psalm 55:14)

 

(II) CHALLENGE TO TRUST IN GOD

1. Because of answered prayer (Psalm 118:5, 21)

2. Because the Lord is on our side (Psalm 118:6)

3. Because the Lord is our proven help (Psalm 118:13)

4. Because the Lord gives strength (Psalm 118:14)

5. Because the Lord gives songs (Psalm 118:14)

6. Because the Lord gives salvation (Psalm 118:14)

7. Because the Lord gives victory (Psalm 118:15-16)

 

(III) PAINFUL LESSONS LEARNED ALONG THE WAY

1. The Lord chastens (Psalm 118:18)
