Title: Your Faith has made you well
Text: Mark 5:25-34

Context

1. It is a story within a story
2. Jesus had agreed to help a man named Jairus (Mark 5:24)
3. Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house when the woman in today’s story approached

[A] The circumstances of the woman made known

1. She was sick (Mark 5:25)

a) It was recorded in three gospels that this woman had a flow of blood
b) This means that she was haemorrhaging (bleeding)
c) It was a serious condition because it was chronic as it lasted twelve years

2. She suffered much because of her illness (Mark 5:26)

a) She had made the effort to seek out physicians to be treated by them
b) She suffered many things because of the physicians
c) She spent all she had but did not benefit in any way and was never cured
d) She ended up getting worse

[B] The features which made this miracle possible

1. Faith was applied

a) Faith is needed before Jesus can do His mighty works
b) Even if the faith of the woman was based on little knowledge
i. She did not know Jesus very well
ii. She did not know if He would allow her to stop Him and ask for help
c) She still applied her faith in Jesus (Mark 5:27-28)

2. The power of Jesus

a) Two things happened immediately once the woman touched Jesus
i. The woman was healed (b)
ii. Jesus knew that power had gone out of Him (Mark 5:30a)
b) This tells us that
i. Jesus is the source of great power
ii. His power was readily available to the woman
iii. He gently and graciously gave of His power to heal the woman

[C] The woman was given the opportunity to learn about Jesus

1. Jesus stopped to address the woman who touched Him (Mark 5:30b, 32)
2. It was because of this that the woman was able to learn vital truths about Jesus
3. What did the woman learn about Jesus?

a) He is someone who assures (Mark 5:34)
i. The woman came to Him with fears (Mark 5:33)
ii. Jesus understood her fears and assured her that she need not fear anymore
b) He is someone who encourages (Mark 5:34)
i. Jesus encouraged her to be of good cheer and comfort (Matthew 9:22)
ii. Jesus encouraged her that the faith she applied had healed her
iii. She could now have a more certain, more concrete, and clearer faith in Jesus

[D] A word of encouragement

1. We may not have much knowledge about Jesus
2. But we can still apply our faith in the Lord Jesus when life gets challenging

a) We can take the little which we know
b) We can believe in this knowledge

3. We can discover more about Jesus as we turn to Him
4. We can look forward to having a faith that has grown in the knowledge of Jesus
