GLIMPSES OF THE CALLING OF SOME OF THE DISCIPLES-APOSTLES (I)

THE DISCIPLE ANDREW

John 1; Matthew 4; Mark 1

1. He was one of the disciples of John              John 1:37, 40

a) He heard John the Baptist preach
b) He was baptised
c) He became a disciple of Christ

2. A special message of John the Baptiser concerning the Lord Jesus Christ

a) John identified Jesus as the Lamb of God            John 1:29, 36
b) He bore a consistent and strong testimony of the Lord Jesus
i) He was far greater than John the Baptiser               John 1:27
ii) He testified about the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus           John 1:32

iii) He said that Jesus would baptise with the Holy Spirit         John 1:33

iv) He declared that Jesus was indeed the Son of God              John 1:34

3. Andrew’s response to John’s message

a) He called Jesus “Rabbi”             John 1:38
b) He had a long chat with Jesus               John 1:38-39

4. Reaching out to his brother Peter

a) Andrew sought out his brother Peter             John 1:40

THE CALL TO BE FISHERS OF MEN

1. Both Andrew and Peter were fishermen           Mark 1:16
