INTRODUCTION
1. The subject of Love
a) This was taught
b) This was emphasized
2. Two aspects of Love were highlighted
a) Love for one another (John 13:34-35)
b) Love for the Lord Jesus (John 14:15)
3. Knowledge of a deeper kind
a) This was necessary
b) This was something the Lord always sought to teach/ encourage
THE SUBJECT OF DEPARTING EARTH
19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.
20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you
John 14:19-20
1. Imminent departure of the Lord
a) The world will see Him no more
b) His death and resurrection completed the Lord’s earthly ministry
c) This was a subject that the Lord had taught many times
d) Once again, He reminded His Disciples
2. Seeing the Lord ever more
a) The world will see the Lord Jesus no more
i) They will not hear Him teach
ii) They will not see Him heal
iii) His public ministry will come to an end
b) But the Disciples will see Him
i) Literally (the first 40 days after resurrection)
ii) Spiritually, they will be able “to see” the Lord
iii) But it would require faith and maturity
c) The Disciples will live
i) Because the Lord lives
ii) Their lives are tied together
iii) They need to learn this truth well
3. A deeper knowledge and faith
a) You will know
i) That I am in the Father
ii) And you in Me
iii) And I in you
b) The knowledge the Lord Jesus speaks about
i) It is knowledge that the Spirit of God needs to impart
ii) He will have to enlighten their eyes
iii) They will have to do their part to comprehend this truth
iv) This will not be easily fathomed
4. The Commandments of the Lord Jesus
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. John 14:21
a) The commandments of the Lord Jesus
b) These are His teachings
c) They are to be kept
5. True Love for the Lord Jesus
a) Seen in the keeping of His commandments
b) This goes beyond “head knowledge”
6. Consequence of love for the Lord Jesus
a) Love from the Father
b) Love from the Lord Jesus
c) Manifestation of the Lord Jesus to the one who truly loves Him
CONCLUSION
1. To deepen spiritual knowledge
2. To develop love for the Lord
3. To live in hope of the manifestation of the Lord Jesus to us
