WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU?

Remembering What God Has Done

It is always a good thing to remember and review what God has done for us. When we do not do this, we tend to take things for granted and lose sight of the Lord and His mercies. The Israelites during the times of the prophet Micah had sinned gravely against Him. The Lord gently reminded the people the things done for them.

“O My people, remember now”
Micah 6:5

The Lord recalled how it was Him who brought Israel out of the land of Egypt. He redeemed them from bondage. It was also the Lord who raised up leaders like Moses to lead the people through the wilderness and prevented Balaam from cursing them. Young people, let’s take time to remember the Lord and His goodness.

Not Mere Outward Expressions

“With what shall I come before the Lord,
And bow myself before the High God?
Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings,
With calves a year old?”

Micah 6:6

The people of Israel also had to learn that worship is not just about offerings and sacrifices. The Lord told His people that the offering of thousands of rams would be of no use to Him if it does not come from a life that is righteous before Him. God is not just looking at mere outward expressions of worship. He is looking at our lives.

Doing What Is Good And Required By God

“He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?”

Micah 6:8

What does the Lord require us to do that we may please Him in all things?

1. To Do Justly

We are meant to do that which is just and right in the sight of the Lord. The challenge for us is to learn to deal justly with all men.

2. To Be Most Merciful

We are also meant to learn how to show mercy to others in need. Even as God has been merciful to us, let’s also learn to be merciful to others. We must learn to demonstrate mercy at all times.

3. To Walk With Great Humility With God

Lastly, the Lord also commanded His people to recognise how great He is and how insignificant they are. God’s people are meant to walk humbly before Him. Young people, let’s learn to show great humility even as we walk with Him each day.
