THE QUEST FOR THE LORD’S STRENGTH

Have You Started Reading The Whole Book Of Psalms?

Last Saturday, at the pre-conference special, Pastor spoke of the need to be strong. Many Christian youths struggle today with weaknesses in their lives and they do not know how to overcome them. The challenge given by Pastor was for all to learn what it means to be a strong Christian. One thing he tasked all to do was to read the whole book of Psalms and to find references that pertain to the subject of strength. We are to finish this assignment before Youth Conference begins. As I read this exciting book, I saw how the Psalmists constantly sought the strength of the Lord. As they faced the challenges of life, they needed to be strong. We too need to find spiritual strength from the Lord to face life demands and problems.

The Psalmists’ Example In Seeking The Strength Of The Lord

The writers of the book of Psalms recognised the need to be strong at all times.

1. In Times Of Trouble

“Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me!
Give your strength to your servant”

Psalm 86:16

In times of desperate need, the Psalmist sought the Lord’s strength. Enemies had risen against him and wanted to kill him. He needed strength from God to help him carry on in life. It is not easy to find strength when we are faced with harsh problems. David prayed to God that He would be most merciful to him. It is through the Lord’s grace and mercy that He will bless His people with strength. David prayed to the Lord to grant him strength to carry on in life.

2. In Times Of Praising God

“Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!”

Psalm 105:4

The text of Psalm 105 begins with a call for us to give thanks to God and to praise Him. It is a call to speak of His wondrous works to the people and to rejoice in Him. In the midst of this, we are meant to seek the Lord and His strength. This is not something we do only in bad times. We are to seek the Lord’s presence always. Even in times of praising God, we must still seek Him to be strengthened by Him.

Seeking The Lord And His Strength At Youth Conference

Let’s seek to follow the example of the Psalmists in seeking the Lord’s strength at all times. Let’s be challenged to come for the Youth Conference as we consider what it means to be strong. This Saturday, we will once again have another pre-conference session to learn more about strength. Please plan to come. Let’s gear our minds towards learning from the Psalms. Let’s seek the Lord and His strength at Youth Conference 2008. Let’s make it our life-long quest to be strong in the Lord.
