Feeling Defeated When It Comes To Bearing Witness?

Bearing witness for the Lord is a challenging endeavour. When we share the gospel with people, often, we are faced with opposition and rejection. When we are not able to convert our loved ones to faith in the Lord Jesus, we may feel dejected. In fact, we may even feel so discouraged with repeated failures that we find it hard to sustain our efforts to speak for the Lord. The recently concluded YAG retreat on bearing witness brought a timely challenge to many attendees on the great need to find power in sharing our faith. We were stirred and encouraged to put in even greater effort to evangelise for the Lord. We do not need to wallow in discouragement and despair. We can find great motivation and the power to bear witness of the Lord Jesus.

The Great Motivation To Bear Witness

What would motivate us to bear witness for the Lord?

1. Having A Personal Deep Sense Of Indebtedness

“I am debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise.”
Romans 1:14

Paul felt a deep sense of indebtedness to all people. The Lord had blessed him with great grace and with many spiritual blessings. He felt that he owed it to God and to all men that he bore witness of the Lord Jesus. He was driven by this sense of indebtedness. Let’s also appreciate deeply the extensive work that the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us. We owe it to people to share the gospel with them.

2. Having A Great Sense Of Readiness To Preach The Gospel

“So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.”
Romans 1:15

Not only must we be driven to bear witness, it is also vital that we be ready to preach the gospel too. Paul was ready to preach the gospel at any time and any place. With greater readiness to bear witness, there comes greater motivation to do so. We too must be able to have this sense of readiness to preach the gospel with a greater depth of understanding.

3. Not Being Ashamed For The Gospel

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
Romans 1:16

As sons of God, we must not be ashamed of telling people that we are Christians. Paul was not ashamed of the gospel because there is tremendous power within it. It has the power to win souls for the Lord. Let’s have the faith and courage to bear witness of the gospel. Let’s be challenged to boldly speak of our faith in the Lord.
