REFLECTING ON THE LESSONS LEARNT FROM GOD’S WORD

We are coming to almost the end of the first half of the year. It has not been the easiest of months to go through as we cope with the Covid-19 pandemic, especially with the Delta Covid-19 variant coming to Singapore and causing us to return into Phase Two (Heightened Alert). We truly thank God for watching over us, preserving us, and keeping all of us safe. Furthermore, we give thanks for the many lessons of truth that we have learnt which have encouraged and edified us during these last six months. The commencement of our Youth Worship Service this year brought much joy to the heart. Pastor has been preaching over the pulpit on the themes of worship and faith. There were many wonderful lessons learnt about how to worship the Lord with the proper reverence and about the faith of Abraham and his application of it in his life. Many other lessons were also taught at the Morning Worship and the Combined Sunday School lessons, and from the daily and weekly devotions and newsletters sent to us. Let’s take time to review and ponder over them.

CHECKING THE RESULTS OF THE WORD OF GOD IN OUR LIVES

“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever”
Psalm 19:7-9

Pastor recently spoke about meditating on the word of God from Psalm 19 and how there will come definite results in our lives. The word of God is indeed powerful, and it can make a deep impact on our lives. It can do a profound work of cleansing and changing the soul. It can also help those who are simple in their understanding to have wisdom and prudence in life. Furthermore, the word of God can bring lasting joy to the heart. It can also bring much enlightenment to our spiritual eyes. When we go through the process of meditating on the word of God, the product is having the fear of the Lord in our lives. There would come a proper regard for the Lord, and we will seek to live righteously. The word of God can affect our whole being; heart, soul, mind / perspective, and life.

Young people, as we reflect the word of God that has been taught to us, let’s look for definite results in our lives. Are we wiser? Is there more joy in our heart? Have we started learning to fear the Lord? It is good for us to do an honest assessment of our faith and life.

RESPONDING IN PRAYER AS WE SEE THE SINS IN OUR LIVES

“Who can understand his errors?
Cleanse me from secret faults.
Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.”
Psalm 19:12-13

As David meditated on the word of God, he admitted openly that he had grave sins in his life. He even found it hard to understand the sins and errors in a person’s life. He confessed that he had secret faults in his life that he had hidden from others. He was conscious of his presumptuous sinning against the Lord. He knew how sins could dominate him and would lead him to doing greater sins. He humbly sought the Lord for His cleansing and for Him to help him to not sin.

Young people, as we review and ponder the word of God, we too need to honestly look at the sins in our lives. Let’s humbly confess them before the Lord. Let’s pray and ask Him to cleanse us of these sins that plague our lives. Let’s pray that His grace and His word would help us change in the months ahead as we exercise faith in them.
