LEARNING TO FULLY TRUST IN THE LORD

Trusting God fully is something that is challenging for us to do. And yet, it is vital that we learn how to go about it. The principle of fully trusting the Lord should be practised as we go through life and serve in ministry. Here is an acronym that will help us learn to trust the Lord with all our hearts.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on our own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6

1. T – TIME TO LEARN, TRAINING

A. TIME TO LEARN

Trusting the Lord with one’s whole heart takes time to learn. It is not something that most people can develop quickly. It takes time to know God and to trust in Him.

B. TRAINING THE HEART TO LEARN

There is also the need to train the heart to trust. Those who walk with the Lord will train their heart to let go of their own ways and to trust Him and His ways as they go through the experiences of life.

2. R – RELIANCE ON GOD

Trust is about having a reliance on God and His leading. The humble will learn to be dependent on the Lord more and more as he faces life’s challenges.

3. U – UNDERSTANDING OF GOD AND HIS WAYS

There must also be that understanding of God and His paths as we learn to trust. The Lord is our shield and protector. He preserves our life from harm. The Lord will show us the way of goodness and the paths of righteousness. Our trust must be based on the knowledge of God and His ways and not to rely on our own understanding. There were those who despised wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7). They refused to learn and to be corrected. They chose rather to follow their own ways.

4. S – SEEK GOD IN PRAYER

Trusting God is also about actively seeking Him in prayer for everything that we go through in life. We are to seek to honour Him as our Lord and to commit all things to Him in prayer. Those who are prudent will seek the Lord diligently because they realise how easy it is to stray from Him. We need God’s help to direct us away from the path of sin to the path of righteousness.

5. T – TIME ASPECT, TRUTH ASPECT

A. TIMING ASPECT

We are to trust the Lord for His timing and to wait on Him as He leads us.

B. TRUTH ASPECT

The Lord God will indeed show us His way in life. We will see the significance of trusting the Lord fully. Those who trust the Lord will dwell in the land (Proverbs 2:21). They will continue in life and be blessed by Him. Wisdom and discernment will help us see the truth of trusting Him with all our heart. Let’s learn to trust the Lord more and more and may the Lord lead us in all things.
