SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS VS SPIRITUAL LIGHT

“Whose Minds The God Of This Age Has Blinded”

Winning souls for the Lord is much harder than it seems. One of the reasons why it is difficult is because of spiritual blindness. We can vigorously share the gospel with non-believers but somehow, they cannot seem to understand beyond a certain level. There seems to an invisible “veil” that prevents them from perceiving the truth. Behind this “veil” is the work of the evil one.

“… it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe…”
2 Corinthians 4:3-4

“The god of this age” is a reference to the evil one. He will seek to blind people. This spiritual blindness causes people not to see the truth of the gospel.

“… lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”
2 Corinthians 4:4

The gospel of Christ sheds glorious light to one who is willing to hear it. However, the evil one is doing all he can to block this light from shining on the hearts of man. They will end up not believing. They will reject the Lord Jesus. Young people, we are in the midst of a great spiritual battle. What people need is the light of the gospel.

The Light Of The Gospel That Shines In Our Hearts

“For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
2 Corinthians 4:6

At the beginning of time, it was God who commanded light to shine forth when there was darkness. In a similar way, when we were yet in darkness, God in his rich mercies shone the light of the gospel on our hearts. It was through having knowledge of the glory of God that we were enlightened. It was through the preaching of His word that light was shed. Truly, we must give thanks to God for the wonderful knowledge that we have in the Lord Jesus. Let’s never take for granted the spiritual light that we have through the gospel of Christ.

Sparing No Effort To Share This Same Light Of Gospel To Others

“For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.”
2 Corinthians 4:5

As much as we have received the light, there are many others who are still in darkness. Our challenge is to spare no effort in sharing the gospel with our loved ones and friends who still do not know the Lord. The focus of our sharing is not on ourselves but the person of the Lord Jesus. We must be willing to do anything to proclaim the gospel, even being a bondservant like Paul. We must not be afraid to have the humility to be servants so that others may be won to the Lord. Ultimately, we are doing this for the Lord’s sake. It is for His glory that we will do anything to win people. Let’s be challenged to be conscious of being bondservants for the sake of the Lord Jesus. Many are out there in the world who are still living in great darkness. We must be so much more constrained to put on the “shoes” of the gospel of peace wherever we go. Let’s be instruments by which the light of the gospel can shine in the hearts of man.
