SHARING ABOUT THE GREAT GRACE OF GOD

Remembering What We Were Before

One of the greatest challenges of witnessing is knowing how to share the gospel. Sometimes, it is hard to put what we believe into words. The amazing thing about the Apostle Paul was that he constantly shared the gospel in his epistles. In the text of Ephesians 2:1-10, Paul shared about what salvation was all about. He remembered what he was before receiving salvation.

“… who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience…”
Ephesians 2:1-2

Once, we were all spiritually dead in all our sinful ways. We were so used to our iniquity that we had become “dead” to anything spiritual. We were walking according to the ways of this world. The prince of the power of the air is a reference to the evil one. He was controlling our lives through sin and the world. The frightening thing was that we did not even know that he was in control of our lives.

The Great Grace Of God Extended To Us

“But God who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ…”
Ephesians 2:4-5

As we share how sinful we were before, we must go on to speaking of God’s love and His grace. The Lord is indeed rich in mercy. Even when we were still deep in our sins, we were saved by the Lord Jesus. We became alive to Christ. We became spiritually alive. It was Christ who made us alive with Him.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works…”
Ephesians 2:8-9

It is by the grace of God that we have been saved. It would be good to explain to non-believers what grace is. It is something that we do not deserve and yet God gives to us. It takes nothing less than the grace of God for us to be saved through Christ. It is through faith in the Lord Jesus that we have salvation, not our own effort. Salvation is a gift of God. All we have to do is to accept it. This is the grace of God.

For We Are His Workmanship

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10

Last but not least, we may share about how Christ has saved us with a purpose. We are to become His workmanship. The Lord Jesus is going to change our lives into something new and wonderful. The Lord is going to make us into a “beautiful piece of tapestry”. We will become a new creation in Christ. Instead of committing more sin in our lives, we are going to do good works. The Lord Jesus will transform us and make us into His workmanship. As we read of how Paul shared the gospel, let’s seek to do the same. It is wonderful see how the Lord has saved us from the clutches of the evil one and has given us His salvation and purpose in life by His amazing grace. Let’s always be challenged to share the grace of God that we have experienced in our lives.
