Not Easy To Be A “Living Sacrifice”

The apostle Paul gave a challenge to all Christians to be “living sacrifices”. They are to be holy and set apart for God’s use. If we truly appreciate the mercies of God, this is the only logical and reasonable thing to do on our part. However, for many, it is hard to actually live out the concept of being “living sacrifices”. Part of the problem is that we tend to be caught up with this world. The influence of the world causes us to think in a secular way. It causes us be self centred. While it may not be easy to be a “living sacrifice” because of the influence of the world, let’s be undeterred in endeavouring to be one.

Having The Faith Not To Conform To This World

“And do not be conformed to this world”
Romans 12:2

Our challenge is to have the faith that enables us to be effectively different from the world. We must dare not to be conformed to this world. The idea behind “conformed” is to fashion oneself after the pattern of the world. While many may follow the ways of the world, our personal challenge is to have the courage to break away from this pattern. We are to say “no” to the world’s alluring influences. Let’s have the faith to choose not to be caught up with the things of the world

Seeking To Be Transformed

“But be transformed by the renewing of your mind”
Romans 12:2

The Lord can also transform the way we think and the way we live. He can change our lives from one that is self centred into one that is Christ-centred. He can do this through the renewing of our minds. As we develop a stronger spiritual mindset, the things of the world will begin to pale in significance. As our minds are cleansed and renewed through prayer and His word, we will seek to live more for the Lord rather than the world. Let’s make it our commitment to be transformed by the Lord bit by bit.

Testing Out The Perfect Will Of God

“That you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2

The word “prove” has the idea of testing out. The will of God is intrinsically good, most acceptable and perfect. As we seek to present ourselves as “living sacrifices” to God, we can appreciate fully His will for us. As we start bit by bit to live for Him, we will see that His will is indeed good. As we present more of ourselves to His will, we will see that it is most acceptable. As we change to what God wants us to be, we will recognise that His will is truly perfect. Let’s be encouraged to live for the Lord even more and be so transformed that we may indeed prove His perfect will for us.
