A Dynamic Approach To Saving Souls

This Saturday, we would be having our Mid-Autumn Special. As of last weekend, there are about 120 older adults from the pioneer generation who are coming for this event. It is indeed a great opportunity to reach out to them during this yearly occasion. And yet, reaching out should never be seen as a straight forward endeavour. It requires much effort and prayer. Our challenge is to be everything that we can be to the lost that we may save some. This dynamic approach was elucidated by the apostle Paul.

1. Being A Servant To All

“For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all”
1 Corinthians 9:19

Although Paul was free from obligation to anyone, he sought to have this great disposition where he would be a “slave” to all. He was willing to work with the confines of the people that he was reaching out to. He humbly sought to identify with different groups of people.

2. Being All Things To All Men

“I have become all things to all men”
1 Corinthians 9:22

Paul decided long along that he would take such an approach for outreach. He was a Jew (naturally so) when he was reaching out to the Jews. He became like the weak, in order to reach out to the weak. He did not choose to do what he wanted. He was always working within the will of God and under the Lordship of our Saviour. Can we also dynamically work within such confines? Yes, we can.

Motivational Factors

1. The Prospect Of Winning More Souls To The Lord

“That I may win the more”
1 Corinthians 9:19

The word “win” in the Greek means “to profit or gain”. This an ancient mercantile term for exchanging one’s good for another. In the context of this passage, this term was used to mean gaining souls for Christ. Each effort we put in should see us closer to the prospect of gaining a soul for God.

2. The Purpose Of Being A Fellow-Partaker Of The Gospel

“Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker with of it with you.”
1 Corinthians 9:23

Paul had a tremendous sense of purpose in reaching out because of his deep concern for the gospel. He did it for the sake of the Lord Jesus and His kingdom so that he would be able to fellowship with the Corinthians in it.

The Challenge To Spare No Effort To Save Some

“That I might by all means save some.”
1 Corinthians 9:22

The apostle Paul was indeed a wonderful example of what it means to reach out to others. Let’s spare no effort in reaching out to the older ones. Let’s take time to come and seek to be a source of blessing to those who are new. It is always good for us to show our respect for them and take time to talk to them. Let’s follow Paul’s example in reaching out, that we by all means save some.
