BUILDING ON THE FOUNDATION

The Lord’s Judgment Of The Works In Our Lives

Did you know that the Lord will test out the works that we have done for Him? Of course, He will not judge us according to our sins because He has forgiven us of them. But He will definitely evaluate the works that we have done in our lifetime.

“Each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.”
1 Corinthians 3:13

He will examine each one’s work of what sort it is. If our works pass the test of scrutiny, He will reward us accordingly. On the other hand, if our works are burnt by the “fire”, we will receive nothing. And yet, we will not lose our salvation. It is crucial that we understand how the Lord will test out our works.

Taking Heed How We Build

“But let each one take heed how he builds on it.”
1 Corinthians 3:10

The challenge for us is to take heed of the way we build. Are we building our lives on the right things? There are two things we must consider.

1. Being Guided By The Lord’s Example And His Teachings

“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 3:11

The foundation of the Lord Jesus and His word must be the basis of everything that we do. The Lord Jesus is the foundation that has been laid. We must not build on another foundation. When we do not build our works on the foundation of Christ and His word correctly, we end up with nothing. We must be guided by the Lord and His word.

2. Being Good Co-Workers With God

“Now he who plants and he who waters are one”
1 Corinthians 3:8

“For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.”
1 Corinthians 3:9

The manner we work is also crucial. The Lord considers us as His co-workers. We are all part of God’s building. Our challenge is to work as one. All of us may have different roles in helping others grow. Some of us may “plant”. Others may “water”. But the Lord is the one who will give us the increase. Let’s seek to have a great sense of oneness even as we work for the Lord. Let’s seek to be good co-workers of the Lord.
