Feeling Like Running Away From Your Problems?

Life is very often filled with problems. Sometimes, they can be so overwhelming that we find them hard to bear. King David was going through a time where his own friends betrayed him and sought to kill him. He felt great fear and anxiety within his heart. He felt like fleeing from his problems.

“Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.”

Psalm 55:6

He wanted to be like a bird that would quickly fly away from its troubles. Young people, do you ever feel like running from your trials? Fleeing is never a good solution.

Don’t Run, Pray Instead

The best way to handle difficulties is not to flee but seek the Lord in prayer.

1. Having The Personal Faith To Call On The Lord In Prayer

“As for me, I will call upon God,
And the Lord shall save me.”

Psalm 55:16

When faced with overwhelming problems, the Psalmist personally determined to call upon the Lord in prayer. This was the kind of faith he had. He believed in the power of prayer. Our faith must cause us to pray. There must be the personal determination to call upon the Lord in prayer. There must be the confidence that the Lord will hear us.

2. Cultivating The Discipline To Pray

“Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray, and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.”

Psalm 55:17

Prayer is not just a one off thing. It should be cultivated till it becomes a way of life. Praying and interceding should be a daily routine. Let’s learn to set aside time to pray in the morning, noon and evening. When we cry to the Lord persistently (as we should), He will hear us.

3. Casting Our Burdens On The Lord In Prayer

“Cast your burden on the Lord,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”

Psalm 55:22

As we pray, we must also cast our burdens on the Lord. Let’s not carry our burdens on our own shoulders. We are to lay all our burdens on Him and He will sustain us. He will not permit the righteous to be moved by the problems of life. Let’s learn to trust in the Lord so much more as we turn to Him in prayer. He will help us as we call on Him.
