SEEKING THE LORD IN TIMES OF CHALLENGES

FACING THE CHALLENGES OF LIFE

The Psalmist was going through a most difficult time.   There were those who were wicked and out for blood (Psalm 5:4-6, 9-10.)  They were deceitful in what they did.  On one hand, they flattered with their tongue but on the other hand, they spoke falsehood against David.   They did things that were in rebellion to the Lord.   It was in times like this, that the Psalmist sought to relate to the LORD.

  1. Seeking God as King through morning prayers

“Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation, give heed to the voice of my cry my King and my God for to you I will pray.   My voice you shall hear in the morning O Lord…”   Psalm 5:1-2

The challenges of life drove David to seek the Lord in the morning.   As he meditated on the word of God, he sought to cry out to Him with what he had pondered over.   He was most conscious of God as His King who was sovereign over his life.  He had learnt to pray and talk to the LORD as His personal King and God in the morning.

  1. Seeking to worship a most merciful God

“But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy.  In fear of You, I will worship toward your holy temple.”   Psalm 5:7

The Psalmist also sought to seek the LORD in worship.   He was conscious that God was a most merciful God.   This is part of His glorious attributes.  There was gratitude for His great mercies.   The Psalmist could also depend on the abundance of mercies of the LORD.  David had that proper reverence of God even as he sought the Lord and His mercies to face His difficulties.

  1. Seeking the leading of the Lord in His righteousness

“Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies…”   Psalm 5:8

The Psalmist also learnt to seek the LORD to lead Him in His righteousness.   He knew that there were enemies who were out to get Him.   They would seek to use all kinds of unrighteous means to try to destroy him.  David sought the LORD to lead Him in His righteousness so that His way would be clear to him.  He was still going to walk righteously.   Let’s also seek to pray for the LORD’s leading in life as we face the challenges of the day   Let’s seek to walk in His righteous way and not compromise on that.
