TRUSTING IN GOD BEFORE REJOICING

Joy cannot exist without the element of trust in God. This was something the Psalmist brought across as he saw the difference that God made in his life.

But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You…” Psalm 5:11

As he experienced the Lord’s mercy in his life, he was able to understand how trusting in Him would lead the righteous to have joy. The Psalmist himself had sought to trust in the Lord personally and He was there for him.

1. Consciousness of God and trust in Him in prayer go together

My voice you shall hear in the morning O Lord, ” Psalm 5:3

David had learnt to be conscious of God in the morning in prayer. He had learnt to meditate on the Lord and to transfer his thoughts into heartfelt pleas to Him. As he thought of God as King and Lord in his life, he trusted in Him as he looked up to Him. He was beginning his day seeking God with trust. He sought to entrust what he was going through to the Lord in prayer.

2. Comprehension of God and trust in God go together

In fear of You I will worship towards Your holy temple.  Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness…” Psalm 5:7

There was also some comprehension of God as he related to Him and worshipped Him. He saw God as one who was righteous, merciful and holy. On one hand, He will bless the righteous (Psalm 5:12) and on the other hand, He will hate and judge the wicked (Psalm 5:4-6). The Lord does not take pleasure in the wicked nor is there any evil in Him. He will bring about destruction on them. David saw them as being guilty before a righteous God (Psalm 5:10). He was able to see Him as a God of righteousness. There was that comprehension of God that caused him to trust the Lord for His leading. With this proper regard, he worshipped the Lord, prayed and trusted the Lord to lead Him in righteousness.

CHOOSING TO REJOICE AFTER WE TRUST AND WALK IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

But let all those who rejoice…”  Psalm 5:11

David had personally experienced how real the Lord was when he sought to trust in this great and righteous God. His challenge now was for those who trust in the Lord (The righteous) to rejoice. After we have trusted in the Lord, our part is to be led to walk in righteousness and to choose to rejoice in the Lord. We can rejoice in Him for whom we can trust in for all things.  Young people, as you prepare for your exams, do seek to trust in the Lord and to walk in righteousness. When you trust in Him, learn also to rejoice. Let’s choose to rejoice in the Lord for all things.
