Praise You Yet More And More

Praise should be even more a part of our life as we continue into the new year.   The Psalmist had learnt to make praise to the Lord an important feature of his life.   Whether we are young or a bit older, let’s learn to praise the Lord yet more and more.

And will praise You yet more and more…” Psalm 71:14

This was a determination of the Psalmist to continue to give praise to the Lord.   As the Psalmist reflected on the Lord’s hand in his life, he was able to praise the Lord even more. As he thought of how the Lord had upheld him from youth, he wrote of how his praise would be continually of Him (Psalm 71:6).   As the Lord became his strong refuge, he wanted his mouth to be filled with His praise and with His glory all the day (Psalm 71:8). He was even more focused on mentioning the Lord’s righteousness, of His only (Psalm 71:16). What were the things that helped him develop this spirit of praise towards the Lord?

  1. Growing in trust and hope in the Lord

For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth…”   Psalm 71:14

But I will hope continually…” Psalm 71:14

There was an obvious growth in the Psalmist’s trust and hope in the Lord.   From youth, he had learnt to place his trust and hope in the Lord. And now when he was older, he continued and increased his hope in the Lord.   Our challenge is to also grow in our trust and hope in the Lord

  1. Growing in strength in the Lord

But You are my strong refuge…” Psalm 71:7

I will go in the strength of the Lord…” Psalm 71:16

The Psalmist also learnt to grow further in his dependence on the Lord for strength.   From finding in the Lord as his strong refuge, he was able to go in the strength of the Lord.   More than just finding God as refuge, the Lord’s strength was now enabling him to rise up and to live purposefully. Young people, let’s also learn to grow in hope and strength in the Lord that with deep appreciation, we can praise Him yet more and more.
