Going With The Flow

Life. Vibrancy of life. That is what I thought when I saw this scene at the Cheonjeyeon Waterfall on Jeju island, Korea.   It is part of a river that flows from a cave entrance, through three waterfalls before it reaches the river mouth and the sea.   According to Wikipedia, a river is a natural watercourse, usually freshwater flowing towards an ocean, a lake, a sea or another river. In a rare case, the river can flow into the ground and dry up completely at the end of the course, without reaching another body of water (I did not know that). Water generally collects in river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs and the release of water through ice melting. A surface runoff happens when the soil is infiltrated to full capacity and excess water flow over the land. As I stood transfixed by the sheer force of the water, I was reminded of the Lord Jesus speaking to people about how from the heart that there can flow rivers of living waters.

RIVERS OF LIVING WATER

If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures had said , out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38

If we are spiritually thirsty, our challenge is to come to the Lord Jesus and to drink from Him. Drinking from Him has the idea of believing.   And if we truly come to Him and believe in Him, our thirst would definitely be quenched.   When we deepen our faith in the person of the Lord Jesus and His word, and we continue to do so, we would find rivers of water flowing from within us.   The word “heart” in the Greek is actually the word “stomach” (in this instance). It is a reference to the innermost being of ourselves. There would be this pulsating life force flowing from deep within us.   This is the work of the Holy Spirit filling and empowering our life. The verses referred to by John was taken from the text of Isaiah 44:3.   The Lord God would pour abundant water on him who is spiritually thirsty and bring up floods on dry ground. There would be a spiritual “surface runoff”. He would pour His Spirit and His blessing on His people and their children. There would be tremendous life and vitality within this person’s life as he exercises faith in His word. There would be the powerful filling of the Spirit of God.   We would be so saturated with His word and His Spirit that rivers of life would flow from us. There would be tremendous capacity to do much work. Let’s deepen our faith in the Lord and seek the filling of the Spirit of God in our life.
