“I am the Good Shepherd”

In Dec 2012 I had the opportunity to travel to the Middle East. It was my first time there and it proved to be an interesting experience. One of the places I visited was the Emirates Palace, a seven star luxury “golden” hotel in Abu Dhubai. I could not afford to stay there but decided to go and take a look. 🙂

The hotel serves the wealthiest people around the world. It is furnished with gold and marble, and is equipped with shops, services, and amenities for the rich. These are pictures that I took of a vending machine that sells gold, and also cakes which were made with a tinge of gold!

As I recount my short visit to the “golden” hotel I am reminded that even as the world places much value in pursuing wealth and riches, I have something which is so much more precious, and that is our Lord Jesus. In John 10:11 Jesus says,

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”

This verse is one of the seven “I AM” statements of our Lord Jesus that was recorded in the gospel of John. It speaks of the magnitude Christ’s love for us, that He is willing to give His own life for people like you and me. To me, nothing else can be compared to this precious truth.

The sacrifice of our Lord Jesus has given me a new life, and also a new reason to live along life’s journey. Jesus will always be given the highest honour in my heart.
