A Blessed and Happy New Year

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Blessed and Happy New Year! May the Lord specially bless us as we enter into 2021.

A challenging 2020

Many have spoken of how difficult this year has been. Due to the COVID-19 virus, our nation went through a tough circuit breaker. And since then, we have been adapting to the government’s necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Our lives have been changed markedly in more ways than one.

As individuals, we have experienced our fair share of challenges. For Pastor Mitch and I, our lives have been severely affected by our dad’s passing and the hospitalisation of our mom. Despite these challenges, I choose to focus on the Lord. I appreciate what Pastor Charles taught us at last Sunday’s Morning Worship that we do not want to just review the year but to also want to see what God has revealed to us so that we may be renewed and revitalised.

A year crowned with the goodness from God

As I end this year, I was reminded of Ps 65. The Psalmist King David wrote, “You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance.” (Ps 65:11) Can we still see the goodness of the Lord no matter how challenging the year has been for us? Our answer should be a definite “Yes”. God has crowned 2020 with His goodness and His blessings. How should we see the blessings of the Lord throughout a very tough year?

1. The blessing of prayers being answered

“By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation,” (Ps 65:5)

God’s blessing is seen in the way He has answered our prayers. As we prayed for God’s salvation and keeping through this pandemic, the Lord has answered by His awesome deeds in righteousness. The God of our salvation has delivered us through His mighty power which was seen in the creation of the mountains and the seas. More personally, God has also been gracious in extending His mercy to my dad, who did not suffer at all. Mercy is also being shown to my mom, who is slowly recovering in the hospital. Let us stand in awe of how God answers our prayers through His power.

2. The blessing of God’s provision

“You visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it;” (Ps 65:9)

David saw how God provides abundantly for all the needs of the earth. He gives rain for the hills, the fields, the trees and so much more. God shows His loving care for all on the earth. Let us also see how God has provided for all our needs, especially in these difficult times. We have not suffered any real lack. Let us appreciate the goodness of God’s provision.

3. God’s plan of blessing

The goodness of the Lord reveals His divine plan. God is always good and will always crown the year with His blessings. Our challenge is to not focus on the negative things of the year but to see His blessings as He has planned. Let us be challenged to greatly appreciate the plan of God…to always crown the year with His goodness. These wonderful truths from God’s Word have brought about renewal and revitalisation to my own heart. Let us end the year praising the Lord with much joy and gladness for giving us His abundant blessings.
