Reviewing the year

We have come to the end of the first half of 2017. How time flies! 6 months have passed us by all so quickly. At this time, it is most appropriate for us to review and to reflect over the year thus far. How has the year been for you?

As a YAG, we have learnt much from our theme, “The same spirit of faith”. What have we actually learnt for ourselves and what have we applied in our personal spirit of faith?

Recapping the lessons learnt

1. Understanding the theme “The same spirit of faith”

“And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,” (2 Corinthians 4:13)

a. Faith…It is content according to the Scriptures that we believe in and live out in life.

b. Spirit of faith…The definitiveness of our faith that is seen in our relationship with the Lord and what we speak of Him. (Psalm 116)

c. The same spirit of faith…The spirit of faith that is meant to be consistent for all…within Bethany and in all our churches. Let us continue to have this same spirit of faith.

2. The same spirit of faith in the context of Paul’s epistle to the Philippian church

a. The spirit of faith is seen in Paul’s regard for the Lord, for himself and for others. (Philippians 1:1)

b. The spirit of faith is based on our understanding of theology and doctrine especially with regards to grace and mercy. (Philippians 1:2)

c. The spirit of faith as seen in the prayer of Paul in which he gave thanks and interceded on behalf of the brethren with joy. (Philippians 1:3)

d. The spirit of faith as reflected in Paul and the brethren’s fellowship in the gospel that was developed and matured over time. (Philippians 1:5)

e. The spirit of faith that is based on Paul’s understanding of God and how He worked in the faith of the brethren from salvation to completion. (Philippians 1:6)

Have we been able to cultivate these lessons as part of our spirit of faith? Let us be challenged to take time to review and apply these lessons that we may have the same spirit of faith.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year

There is so much more that we can learn concerning this same spirit of faith that Paul and the Philippian church cultivated.

Let us be challenged to look forward to deeper lessons for us to learn as we cultivate this sample spirit of faith for the rest of the year.
