The Results Of Our Salvation

Expected results

When we experience salvation through the regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, certain expected results ought to follow. These results indicate that our salvation is genuine. Salvation should not be the end but rather be the beginning. We tend to stop at salvation and not see how the Lord can continue to work in our lives.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “That having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.” (Titus 3:7,8) In these two verses, Paul used two “that”s (hina) to indicate results. What are some results of the Lord’s salvation?

1. Justification

“That having been justified by His grace…” (Titus 3:7)

  1. Through the kindness, love and mercy manifested through Christ, we are given salvation.
  2. This salvation of Christ results in our justification.
  3. Justification means to be made righteous before God.
  4. It is not through the works of righteousness that we can be saved or justified.
  5. We are justified by the grace of God, not based on our merit.
  6. We are totally undeserving of this justification.
  7. It is a special result we want to be thankful for.

2. Heirs

“We should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:7)

  1. Another result of our salvation is that we would become heirs.
  2. Through faith in Christ, we become part of the family of God as His children.
  3. As sons of God, we are made heirs.
  4. We have a special inheritance that is reserved for us in heaven.
  5. It is our special privilege to live as heirs.
  6. This is according to the hope of eternal life in heaven.
  7. As such, we should not be afraid when our life comes to an end.
  8. We have the hope of eternal life…a hope that goes beyond life on this earth.
  9. Let us hold on to this glorious hope as we face the challenges of life.

3. Good works

“That those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.” (Titus 3:8)

  1. Our salvation should result in good works.
  2. This is another indicator of our genuine salvation and faith in God.
  3. We would be maintaining good works for the Lord…by caring for the poor and ministering to the weak.
  4. While there may be difficulties along the way, let us not be discouraged in any way.
  5. The challenge is to keep doing good works.

These are some expected results of our salvation. If we have experienced the kindness, love and mercy of God in our salvation through Christ, we should also display these same qualities to those in need. Let us not grow weary in doing good work. Let us reflect the genuineness of our salvation through manifesting these expected results in our lives and ministries.
