The glorious example of the Lord Jesus Christ

One question that many have sought answers for is, “What is the purpose of our life?” It is indeed a pertinent question that we must discover for ourselves.

The Lord Jesus gave a glorious example of one who had true purpose in life. He had purpose from the beginning of His life to the end of His life. He lived His life with great purpose.

Born with a glorious purpose

“Therefore, when He came into the world, He said, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me, in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure.” (Hebrews 10:5,6)

The author of Hebrews described what God did not delight in, which was sacrifice and offering. It was no longer the Levitical priesthood that God was focused on. But the focus was now on Christ as the Great High Priest.

God had a purpose in giving to Jesus a human body. Even though He was God, He took on flesh at His incarnation. His purpose was to glorify the Father in the flesh…in fullness of grace and truth. (John 1:14) He became a humble man…a bondservant and was obedient to the death of the cross. (Phil 2:8) Jesus was born with the purpose to die.

Have we ever wondered what we were born for? What is our purpose in life? Our example is the Lord Jesus…to live our life in glory of the Father. If we can show some grace and speak the Lord’s truth to someone, let us seek to bring glory to the Father.

A life purpose of fulfilling the will of God according to the Scriptures

“Then I said, “Behold, I have come – in the volume of the book it is written of Me – to do Your will, O God.” (Hebrews 10:7)

The author of Hebrews made reference to the Scriptures. This was taken from Psalm 40:7. Jesus came with full knowledge of the Scriptures. He knew all that was written of Him in the Old Testament. There were many Scriptural references to His life and ministry.

The Scriptures reveal the will of God. Through knowing the Scriptures. Jesus understood God’s will for Him. Jesus focused on the will of God for Him. It was His purpose to do the will of God. It was with singlemindedness that the Lord sought to do His Father’s will. (John 4:34)

What is the place of the Scriptures in our life? How well do we know the Scriptures? Let us be challenged by the example of the Lord to know the Scriptures and to know our purpose in life according to His will.

Fulfilling our purpose in life

Knowing the purpose of our life would not mean very much to us if we did not fulfil it. The Lord Jesus’ clear purpose was to do the will of His Father.

Let us be challenged to know the Scriptures well so that we may discover the will of God for ourselves. Let us make it our focus to fulfil our purpose of giving glory to the Father and to do His will according to the Scriptures.
