THE COVENANTS OF GOD

1. A Covenant has the following essential features:-

a) God graciously offers the Covenant

i) It may be compared to a treaty

ii) An agreement

iii) A contract

iv) A formal relationship

b) Man has to choose how he wishes to respond

i) He can accept

ii) He can reject

iii) But he cannot the Content of the Covenant

2. List of Covenant mentioned in the Scriptures

a) Noahic Covenant          Genesis 8

b) Abrahamic Covenant          Genesis 12, 15 etc

c) Mosaic/Sinaitic Covenant          Exodus 20, 24

d) Levitical Covenant          Malachi 2

e) Davidic Covenant          Psalm 89

f) The New Covenant          Jeremiah 33

g) The Everlasting Covenant          Isaiah 55:3

3. The Significance of The Everlasting (New) Covenant

a) This is called “The Everlasting Covenant”          Isaiah 55:3

b) It is especially related to “David” (a reference to the Messiah – The Son of David”)

c) The Messianic David

i) A Witness

ii) A Leader

iii) A Commander          Isaiah 55:4

4. The Context

a) Israel (nation)

b) The future Israel

c) The nations will turn to Israel          Isaiah 55:5 (Cf. Isaiah 11:10)

GOD’S INVOLVEMENT

1. The LORD your God

2. The Holy One of Israel          Isaiah 55:5

APPROPRIATE RESPONSES

1. Seek the Lord

2. Call upon Him

3. Forsake sinful ways

4. Return to the Lord          Isaiah 55:6-7

ASSURANCE

1. God will grant mercy

2. He will abundantly pardon          Isaiah 55:7
