GOD’S NEW CALLING

1. God calls Israel despite its past sinfulness          Isaiah 54:6a

2. Sad imagery used to compare Israel in the past

a) Like a woman forsaken          Isaiah 54:6b

b) Grieved in spirit          Isaiah 54:6c

c) Like a spurned youthful wife          Isaiah 54:6d

RECALLING THE PAST BROKEN RELATIONSHIP

1. Forsaken

a) Because of wickedness and sin

b) Chastised by the Lord in His wrath          Isaiah 54:8

c) Israel was “forsaken”

d) God hid His face          Isaiah 54:8a

e) But only for a moment          Isaiah 54:7a

2. Forgiven

a) God’s great mercies extended          Isaiah 54:7b

b) God will re-gather Israel          Isaiah 54:7b

c) Everlasting kindness promised          Isaiah 54:8b

REMEMBERING NOAH

1. The experience of Israel being chastised was compared to Noah’s time          Isaiah 54:9a

a) There was so much wickedness          Genesis 6:11

b) The world was destroyed          Genesis 6:13, 17-24

2. God remembered that He would never destroy completely ever again          Isaiah 54:9b

a) He would not retain His anger          Isaiah 54:9c

b) His kindness would never depart          Isaiah 54:10b

c) God’s new covenant of peace will be established          Isaiah 54:10c
