The Messiah as Judge

THE MESSIAH AS JUDGE

1. The theme of the Lord as Judge is prominent in the Psalms and in the Prophetic books

a) Psalms 2, 7, 9, 1❑ (He will judge as King)

b) Isaiah 11:3-5

2. How would the Lord function as Judge?

a) What He will do

i) By the fear of the LORD          Isaiah 11:3a i

i) With righteousness          Isaiah 11:4 ii

i) With equity          Isaiah 11:4b i

v) With the rod of His mouth          Isaiah 11:4c

b) What He will not do

i) He will not judge by the sight of His eyes (superficially)

ii) He will not judge by the hearing of His ears

3. Who will be judged?

a) The poor will be given righteous justice          Isaiah 11:4a

b) The meek will be given equitable justice          Isaiah 11:4b

c) The wicked will be slain by the word of His mouth          Isaiah 11:4d

d) The entire earth (In the Millennial kingdom)          Isaiah 11:4c

4. Characteristics of the Messiah-Judge

a) Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins          Isaiah 11:5a

b) Faithfulness the belt of His waist          Isaiah 11:5b

c) Belt: Represents readiness for action

1. Can we appreciate further how Jesus is the Messiah Judge?

2. Can we learn from the lord’s example in delighting in the fear of the Lord?

3. Are we ready for the Lord who will come as Judge one day?
