I Am the Bread of Life

I am the Bread of Life

And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life” He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
John 6:35

I am the bread of life.
John 6:48

I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.
John 6:51

This is the bread which came down from heaven.

CONTEXT

1. There is always a Context

2. All text must be read and understood within its proper context

3. Great care must be taken to understand the context in which Jesus made His famous I AM statements

4. Context: The Feeding of the Five Thousand

5. Significance of this great miracle

This was a special “sign” John 6:14

a) To help people identify Jesus

b) To help them come to faith in Him

6. However the lack of spiritual comprehension persisted

Jesus was seen only as a prophet John 6:14

JESUS’ REVELATION OF HIMSELF AS THE BREAD OF LIFE

1. He is the Bread of Life

a) He came from heaven

b) He offers spiritual food

c) He invites all to believe in Him.

2. Anyone who comes to believe in Jesus

a) He would never hunger

b) He would never thirst

c) He would have eternal life

STRUGGLES TO BELIEVE IN JESUS

1. A negative spirit

a) Murmuring

b) Complaining

c) Quarrelling

d) Not open to what Jesus taught

2. Result

Many Departed from following Jesus John 6:66

a) They could not understand

b) They refused to listen

c) All they wanted was to have Jesus feed them (perform miracles)

AN EXAMPLE WORTH EMULATING

1. Examples of the apostle Peter

2. Extraordinarily astute statement of faith

But Simon Peter answered him,
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
John 6:68-69
