ADVANTAGE OF BEING A JEW

1. Was there any advantage at all?

a) In being a Jew?
b) In having circumcision?  (Romans 3:1)

2. The answer

a) Yes!
b) Committed to them
i) Given
ii) Entrusted
c) The oracles of God
Lit. “The word of God”  (Romans 3:2)

3. What if some did not believe? (Romans 3:3a)

a) This was a fact
b) There were some who did not believe?

4. Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?  (Romans 3:3b)

a) Certainly not!  (Romans 3:4a)
b) Their unbelief does not reflect on God in any way adversely!

5. A strong contrast given

a) God
b) Man

6. Let God be true  (Romans 3:4b)

a) God is true
b) Even if some did not believe in Him
Against You, You only have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight-
That you may be found just when You speak, and blameless when you judge. (Psalm 51:4)

7. Every man a liar

a) In contrast to God
b) Man’s lying does not reflect on God adversely in any way!
Surely men of low degree are a vapour,
Men of high degree are a lie;
If they are weighed in the scales,
They are altogether lighter than vapour. (Psalm 62:9)

8. As it is written

a) The Scriptures are sighted: –
i) As authoritative
ii) As a source of knowledge
iii) As a source of insight
b) Standard practice
i) To know the Scriptures well
ii) To cite the Scriptures with understanding and skill
