THE BATTLE AGAINST SIN II

Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? (Roman 6:1)

1. The resurrection of Christ Jesus

Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father (Romans 6:4b)

a) Death and burial of Christ
i) God’s solution to the problem of sin
ii) Christ’s atonement was necessary
iii) But death was only part of the answer
b) Just as Christ was raised from the dead
i) Christ could not remain in the state of death
ii) If He had not been raised from the dead, sin and Satan would have won
c) By the glory of the Father
i) The glory of God’s power is displayed
ii) The glory of God’s salvation plan is revealed
iii) The glory of God’s majesty is to be appreciated

2. Just as… even so we also should walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4)

a) Just as God raised Jesus from the dead
i) We can be raised from the dead
ii) We are raised from the dead (Ephesians 2:1-3)
b) Newness of life
i) Newness of life is available
ii) We should walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:4b)

3. United together (Romans 6:5)

a) United together in the likeness of His death (Romans 6:5a)
b) Certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection (Romans 6:5b)
i) The hope of the resurrection is found in the resurrection of Christ

ii) Paul ably defended the doctrine of the resurrection (Cf. 1 Corinthians 15)

To apply these great theological truths in our life and ministry!
