SIGNIFICANT RAMIFICATIONS OF BEING JUSTIFIED BY FAITH

1. Faith

a) This must be found genuine
b) There are always tell-tale signs of true faith
c) They are evidenced in worship, in life, in service etc

2. This faith is honoured by the Lord

a) The believer stands “justified”
b) He is declared righteous before God
c) He has “imputed righteousness”

3. He has peace with God

a) This is not “a feeling of peace”
b) This may be better understood in the light of other texts

4. Before justification from God

a) Dead in trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1)
b) Walked according to the course of the world (Ephesians 2:2)
c) By nature the children of wrath (Ephesians 2:3)
d) Without Christ (Ephesians 2:12)
e) Aliens (Ephesians 2:12)
f) Strangers from the covenants of promise (Ephesians 2:12)
g) No hope (Ephesians 2:12)
h) Without God (Ephesians 2:12)

5. Through our Lord Jesus Christ

a) He Himself is our peace (Ephesians 2:14)
b) Reconciled (Ephesians 2:15-16)
c) Peace proclaimed (Ephesians 2:17)

6. Peace with God

a) Our standing before God
b) No longer estranged from God but reconciled
c) There is also “peace” between Jew and Gentile (Ephesians 2:16-18)

OTHER FEATURES

1. We have access to God (Romans 5:2)

a) By faith
b) By grace (Romans 5:3)

2. We are brought near to God

a) By the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13)
b) Through Him we have access (Ephesians 2:18)
c) By the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:18)

3. Our standing before God

a) No longer strangers or foreigners (Ephesians 2:19)
b) Fellow-citizens with the saints (Ephesians 2:19)
c) Members of the household of God (Ephesians 2:19)
d) We are fitted together
And built together for a dwelling place
Of God in the Spirit (Ephesians 2:20-23)
