Text: Hebrews 6:13-20; Galatians 3-4; Romans 8:16-17

1. The making of an oath

a) Men swear by the greater (Hebrews 6:16a)
b) An oath for confirmation is for an end of all dispute (Hebrews 6:16b)

2. The promise of God to Abraham

a) He made it with an oath
b) He swore by His own name because there was no one greater

3.The promise of blessing

a) Surely blessing I will bless you
b) And multiplying I will multiply you (Hebrews 6:14; Genesis 22:16)

4. The heirs of promise

a) Who are the heirs of promise?
b) The teaching of the Apostle Paul (Galatians 3-4)
i) Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham (Galatians 3:7)
ii)The Scriptures foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith (Galatians 3:8)
iii) The gospel was preached to Abraham…
“in you all the nations shall be blessed” (Galatians 3:8)
iv) You are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:26)
v) As many as were baptized into Christ, have put on Christ (Galatians 3:27)
vi) There is neither Jew nor Greek, neither slave nor free,
there is neither male nor female;
for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28)
vii) And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed (Galatians 3:29a)
viii) And heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29b)
ix) Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son,
and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7)
c) The witness of the Holy Spirit
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God
And if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17)
