MESSAGE OF JOHN THE BAPTISER

(Three-fold emphasis)

1. Message of Repentance for the remission of sins           Matthew 3:2; Mark 1:4

a) The subject of sin must be dealt with
b) Mercifully this message comes with the promise of remission of sin

2. Message about the Kingdom God being at hand           Matthew 3:2

a) The kingdom of God (complex – to say the least)
b) The Messianic kingdom is in mind          (Cf. Daniel 7)

3. Message about the Messiah           Mark 1:7; Matthew 3:11-12; Luke 3:16-17

a) Many prophecies
b) These would be fulfilled in Christ
