Exhortation to Extol the LORD

EXHORTATION TO EXTOL THE LORD

1. Two expressions stated

a) Sing praise to the LORD   (Psalm 30:4)   (Cf. Exodus 15:21)
b) Give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name   (Psalm 30:4)

2. Who are to extol the LORD?

a) God’s saints
i) His “holy ones”
ii) This became a word to describe all believers   (Cf. Romans 1:7)
b) Those who have experienced the Lord’s blessings   (Cf. Psalm 30:1-3)

A REFLECTION

1. God’s anger

a) Described as “wrath”   (Exodus 32:11-12)
b) Against idolatry
c) Against idolaters

2. Moses experienced God’s anger too

a) Moses did not believe God
b) He did not hallow the Lord’s name   (Numbers 20:12)
c) God’s anger and discipline   (Deuteronomy 4:23)
d) Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land

3. God’s anger

a) Described as but for a moment   (Psalm 30:5a)
i) In human time… it may be quite long
ii) In God’s time… it is but for a moment
b) In His favour
i) Forever
ii) For life

4. Weeping

a) May endure for a night   (Psalm 30:5c)
b) Because of chastisement arising from God’s anger

5. Joy

a) Comes in the morning   (Psalm 30:5)
b) The sorrow… only for the night
c) But it can be a long night!
