CONTEXT OF INTERCESSION

1. Moses addresses the people

a) The problem of Sin
You have committed a great sin.    Exodus 32:30

b) The answer to Sin- Atonement

i) Going to the Lord    Exodus 32:30

ii) Perhaps I can make atonement for your sin    Exodus 32:30

2. Addressing the Lord

a) Confession of sin
Oh, these people have committed a great sin    Exodus 32:31

b) The nature of the sin
And have made for themselves a god of gold!    Exodus 32:31

c) Pleading forgiveness
If you will forgive their sin    Exodus 32:32

d) Offering himself as a substitute
But if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written    Exodus 32:32

GOD’S REPLY

1. Correction

a) Whoever has sinned against Me    Exodus 32:33

b) I will blot out of My Book    Exodus 32:33

c) Nothing to do with Moses and his offer to have his name blotted out!

2. Going forward

a) Now therefore, go,    Exodus 32:34

b) Lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you    Exodus 32:34

3. My Angel

a) The reference is to the Pre-incarnate Christ    (Genesis 16:7-14)

b) His presence was acknowledged    Exodus 32:34

c) He will go before you    Exodus 32:34

4. Punishment

a) In the day when I visit for punishment    Exodus 32:34

i) Stay of execution

ii) Chance to repent

b) I will visit punishment upon them for their sin    Exodus 32:34

i) Future

ii) If there is no repentance

iii) If the people continued to pursue idolatry

5. Plague

a) The LORD plagued the people    Exodus 32:35

b) Because of what they did with the calf which Aaron made    Exodus 32:35

c) No details as to the nature of the plague God inflicted the children of Israel with
