Text: Proverbs 30

Dear Parents,

BEWARE: THE DANGER OF BEING “NEVER SATISFIED”
There are some who do not seem to be ever satisfied with anything! No matter the effort put in, the sense of dissatisfaction asserts itself, sometimes in very ugly forms! The analogies drawn are rather stark but they serve the purpose well.

The leech has two daughters-
Give and Give!
There are three things that are never satisfied,
Four never say ‘Enough!’
The grave,
The barren womb,
The earth that is not satisfied with water-
And the fire never says, ‘Enough!’

Proverbs 30:15-16

1. The point of these strong analogies

a) It is to drive home the fact that this problem is a very serious one.

b) It is to alert the reader of this problem of being “never satisfied”.

c) It is to urge the reader to take action.

i) Pre-emptive action

ii) Firm and direct action on this problem if it has already surfaced

2. How does this feeling of not being satisfied come about?

a) It may start from a very young age.

b) Children must be taught how to be happy and satisfied with what they have.

c) When children are allowed to make demands they are in danger of picking up this nasty habit.

d) When children are being pampered and all their whims are being pandered to, they are also in danger.

Let us watch over our children with the greatest of care! Let us help them develop good habits that would last them a lifetime!
