You are a Priest Forever According to the Order of Melchizedek

THE MINISTRY OF THE PRIESTS

1. This was a special order

2. This was ordained by God

3. This was the Aaronic priesthood

4. They were to be assisted by the Levites

5. Their sacred duties

a) To bear the Ark of the LORD   (Deuteronomy 10:8)
b) To stand before the LORD to minister before Him   (Deuteronomy 10:8)
c) To bless His name   (Deuteronomy 10:8)

MELCHIZEDEK

1. Melchizedek   (Genesis 14:18)

a) A historical figure
b) Both priest and king

2. His meeting with Abraham   (Genesis 14:18-20)

a) He presided in worship
b) He blessed the name of God
c) Abraham gave him a tithe

3. The Order of Melchizedek

a) Jesus was described as the High Priest of the Order of Melchizedek
b) This was the Higher Order compared to the Levitical priesthood
c) This is part of the New Covenant Jesus brought about

APPRECIATING THE GLORIOUS MINISTRY OF JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST

1. He is our great High Priest who has passed through to the heavens
(Hebrews 4:14)

2. Note the glorious and wonderful features associated with our High Priest: –

a) He is able to sympathise with all our weaknesses   (Hebrews 4:15)
b) He will show much compassion   (Hebrews 5:2)
c) He is God’s only begotten Son   (Hebrews 4:14; 5:5-6)
d) He is the Author of eternal salvation   (Hebrews 5:9)
e) He has an unchangeable priesthood   (Hebrews 7:14)
f) He is: –
i) Holy
ii) Harmless
iii) Undefiled   (Hebrews 7:26)
g) He is the Mediator of a better covenant, established on better promises   (Hebrews 8:6)
h) He came as the High Priest of better things to come   (Hebrews 9:11)
