YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD

(I) THE COMMANDMENT TO LOVE GOD

1. It is a Pre-eminent command

Now this is the commandment…” Deuteronomy 6:1

“You shall love the Lord your God….” Deuteronomy 6:5

“Jesus said to him,”You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37

2. It is a Reasonable command

a) Because of God’s Love

“And because He loved your fathers,…” Deuteronomy 4:37

b) Because of God’s Lordship

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!…” Deuteronomy 6:4

c) Because of God’s Blessings

“That it may be well with you…” Deuteronomy 6:3

(II) THE COMPLIANCE TO THE COMMAND TO LOVE HIM

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:4

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind.’ Matthew 22:37

1. With full affection of our heart

2. With full commitment of our spirit

3. With full faculty of our mind

4. With full vigour of our strength

(III) THE COMMITMENT TO EXPRESS OUR LOVE FOR THE LORD

1. Diligently hiding Lord’s word in our hearts

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.” Deuteronomy 6:6

2. Diligently teaching the word to our children

“You shall teach them diligently to your children…” Deuteronomy 6:7

3. Diligently serving the Lord

“You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him…” Deuteronomy 6:13

4. Diligently keeping the Lord’s word

“You shall diligently keep the commandment of the Lord your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you.” Deuteronomy 6:17
