(I) PROFOUND PROPHECY OF A SON
1. Many prophecies concerning the Messiah
2. Some are very specific
a) His Sonship
b) His kingship
c) His suffering
d) His resurrection
3. Psalm 2 speaks of a Begotten Son (Psalm 2:7)
a) Declared as King
b) Awaiting fulfilment
(II) APPLICATION AND FULFILMENT OF THE “BEGOTTEN SON” CONCEPT
1. Only begotten Son (John 3:16)
a) Unique Sonship
b) Closeness of Father-Son relationship
2. Baptism of Jesus
a) Open Divine Declaration of the Father
b) Obedience of Jesus at His baptism
c) Not a baptism of repentance
d) But an anointing for public ministry
3. The Resurrection of Jesus
a) Pauline application ( Acts 13:33 )
b) Special reference to Jesus’ resurrection
c) Death could not hold fast the Son of God
d) Satan’s power broken by the Son of God ( Hebrews 2:14-15 )
