TRUSTING THAT THE LORD WILL BLESS THOSE WHO TRUST HIM

(I) A PERSONAL DECLARATION OF FAITH IN GOD

“O my soul, you have said to the LORD,
‘You are my LORD, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
Psalm 16:2

1. An outright rejection of idols

“Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god;
Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer,
Nor take up their names on my lips.”
Psalm 16:4

2. An avowal of glad trust in God

“O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You maintain my lot.”
Psalm 16:5

(II) A PERSONAL TESTIMONY CONCERNING THE BLESSINGS OF GOD RECEIVED

“I will bless the LORD…” Psalm 16:7

1. A good inheritance (Psalm 16:6)

2. Divine counsel (Psalm 16:7)

3. God’s Proximity (Psalm 16:8)

4. The Path of Life (Psalm 16:11a)

5. Fullness of Joy (Psalm 16:11b)

6. Pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11c)

(III) A PERSONAL CHALLENGE TO DEEPEN TRUST IN GOD

1. Reject all alternatives

Full trust in God must mean total rejection of “alternatives”

2. Recalling the establishment of our relationship with the Lord

As a personal God

“Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust” Psalm 16:1

“…You are my LORD…” Psalm 16:2

3. Rededicating ourselves to trust in the Lord

a) Praying to God

b) Rejoicing in God

c) Meditating on God

d) Praising God for His manifold blessings
