Title: “The Promises of God”

INTRODUCTION

1. The Scriptures are called in a number of ways

a) The Law of God
b) Commandments
c) Statutes
d) Judgments
e) Testimonies
f) Prophecies
g) The Word of God
h) The Promises of God

2. Their names reflect a number of things

a) The Content of the Scriptures
b) The Nature of the Scriptures

THE PROMISES OF GOD

1. The idea of a promise

a) It is a word from God
b) It is a word that tells us what He would do
c) It would be fulfilled just as God has said

2. The Promises of God

a) The Promises of God are found in His word
b) It must be ascertained that these are indeed promises of God
c) Every promise would be fulfilled

3. The Promises of God are:

a) Yes
b) Amen (2 Corinthians 1:20)
c) This tells us much about God
i) His commitment
ii) His consistency
iii) His faithfulness
iv) His power

4. The Promises of God in Times of Tribulation

a) The promise of Comfort/ Consolation (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
b) His comfort would abound (2 Corinthians 1:5)
c) It would be effective for consolation and salvation (2 Corinthians 1:6)
d) That God would deliver (2 Corinthians 1:10)

God would prove Himself to be faithful in every way!

THE PROMISE OF ESTABLISHING OUR FAITH AND LIFE

1. It is God who will establish us in Christ

a) This is a promise
b) This will be done

2. How would God establish us?

a) Through the Holy Spirit in our hearts
b) He functions in three wonderful ways:
i) He has anointed us
ii) He has been given as a Seal
iii) He is given as a Guarantee (2 Corinthians 1:22)

HOW WOULD THIS AFFECT OUR MINISTRY?

1. The Word of God must affect our ministry

a) The Word becomes Central
b) The Word becomes our Content
c) The Word becomes our Control

2. With the Word of God

a) God is personally involved
b) If it is His word and work, they would be blessed with His power

HOW WOULD THIS AFFECT OUR PERSONAL LIFE?

1. It affects the words we say

a) Our words must be as consistent
b) Our promises must be as reliable

2. It affects the way we live

a) Our word is our bond
b) Our word must be faithful and true

CONCLUSION

1. A deeper knowledge of God’s word

2. A stronger faith in God’s word

3. A greater impact of God’s word on our life

4. A greater love for the Promises of God’s Word
