Text: 1 Timothy 1:18-20

“THIS CHARGE I COMMIT TO YOU”

 

(I) A SOLEMN CHARGE GIVEN

1. A charge is essentially a command

a) It is a command given by the Lord to Paul

b) It is a command that Paul now gives to Timothy


2. Why call this a command?

a) To express seriousness

b) To express solemnity

 

(II) A SWEET RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FATHER AND SON

1. Consciousness of being a father to Timothy

a) This paternalistic inclination was very strong in Paul

b) He speaks of himself as father

i) To the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 4:15)

ii) And also to the Thessalonian church (1 Thessalonians 2:11)

iii) To Timothy (1 Corinthians 4:17)


2. Conscious address of Timothy as son (1 Timothy 1:18)

a) To encourage

b) To exhort on an even more personal level

 

(III) A STRONG SPIRIT NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN LIFE AND MINISTRY

1. Recalling prophetic statements made when Timothy was ordained
