“IN THE HOUSE OF GOD”
(I) REGARD FOR THE CHURCH
1. Stated against a backdrop of people who do not have a proper regard for the Lord or for the Church!
2. A strong regard for the church is enjoined
a) It comes from a correct understanding of the Word of God
b) And a strong personal faith-relationship with the Lord
(II) REFERENCES TO THE CHURCH
1. The Church as the Body of Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23)
2. The household of God (Ephesians 2:19)
3. A holy temple (Ephesians 2:21)
4. A dwelling place of God (Ephesians 2:22)
5. The House of God (1 Timothy 3:15)
6. The church of the living God (1 Timothy 3:15)
7. The pillar and ground of truth (1 Timothy 3:15)
(III) CONDUCT IN THE HOUSE OF GOD
1. Knowledge of how to conduct oneself in the church is not to be assumed
a) Paul sought to teach
b) Timothy must learn
2. Good conduct in the church
a) It is not an option
b) The word “ought” suggests necessity
(IV) CHALLENGE TO EXAMINE OUR REGARD FOR THE CHURCH
