THE FALSE SHEPHERDS OF JUDAH IDENTIFIED

1. Prophets

2. Priests   (Jeremiah 23:11)

WHAT DID THEY DO?

1. They prophesied in the name of the false god Baal   (Jeremiah 23:13)

2. They spoke a vision of their own hearts   (Jeremiah 23:16)

3. They promised peace when war clouds loomed   (Jeremiah 23:17)

4. They prophesied lies in the name of the Lord   (Jeremiah 23:25)

5. They appeal to the dreams they said were from God   (Jeremiah 23:27)

6. They caused people to forget God’s name   (Jeremiah 23:27)

HOW DID THEY AFFECT THE SHEEP?

1. They scattered the sheep   (Jeremiah 23:1)

2. They destroyed the sheep   (Jeremiah 23:1)

3. They did not tend the sheep   (Jeremiah 23:1)

4. They strengthened the wicked   (Jeremiah 23:14)

5. They made people worthless   (Jeremiah 23:16)

A GREAT PROPHETIC PROMISE OF A TRUE SHEPHERD

1. God would raise up a Branch of righteousness   (Jeremiah 23:5)

2. He would be King and Shepherd   (Jeremiah 23:5)

3. His name would be “THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”   (Jeremiah 23:6)

HIS GREAT SHEPHERDING WORK

1. He will gather the remnant sheep that had been scattered   (Jeremiah 23:3)

2. He will have faithful under-shepherds   (Jeremiah 23:4)

a) They will feed the flock
b) The sheep need fear no more
c) They need to dismay no longer
d) They will not lack

I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD

1. Jesus was that prophesied Shepherd   (John 10)

2. He would tend His sheep carefully

3. He would lay down His life for the sheep
