My Father, You are the Guide of My Youth?

FATHERS AS GUIDES OF ONE’S YOUTH

“My Father, You are the guide of my youth?…” Jeremiah 3:4

1. The example of God as Father, the guide of one’s youth

a. God is meant to be the chief guide of one’s youth
b. Fatherhood and guidance go together

2. Fathers are meant to be the guide of one’s youth

a. Through their example.
b. Through being there for youths in their times of need.

3. The manner of life of the people of Israel from their youth   (Jeremiah 3:24-25)

a. They sinned against God like their fathers.
b. They have been rebelling against God from their youth.
c. A generation of fathers did not do their part.

THE CALL TO CRY TO GOD AS OUR FATHER, THE GUIDE OF OUR YOUTH

“Will you not from this time cry to Me, “My Father, You are the guide of my youth?…”   Jeremiah 3:4

1. A call to recognise God as Father

2. A call to return to God as Father

a. A call for restoration of relationship   (Jeremiah 3:12, 4:1)
b. A call for repentance concerning sins   (Jeremiah 3:22)

3. A call to cry to God as Father

a. A penitential cry
b. A heartfelt cry for God to guide our life once again
c. A prayer to discover God as Father once again

THE CHALLENGE TO FOLLOW THROUGH IN CALLING ON GOD AS FATHER

“You shall call Me, “My Father,” And not turn away from Me…”   Jeremiah 3:19

1. Having a restored relationship with God as Father

2. Continuing in calling on God as Father

3. Establishing the Fatherhood of God in our life

a. Listening to the Lord’s guidance
b. Not turning away from God as Father
c. Walking in His ways
