(I) TROUBLED TIMES
1. When troubles seem too great
“…My soul refused to be comforted.” Psalm 77:2c
2. When the spirit seems overwhelmed
“…I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed.” Psalm 77:3b
3. Dumb with grief
“…I am so troubled that I cannot speak.” Psalm 77:4
4. Anguish of the heart
“And I said, ‘This is my anguish…’ ” Psalm 77:10a
(II) MEDITATING ON THE WORKS OF GOD
1. Making the effort to remember the works of God
“I will remember the works of the LORD…” Psalm 77:11a
2. Finding a fresh appreciation of the works of God
“…Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.” Psalm 77:11b
3. Finding meaning in meditating on the works of God
“I will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of Your deeds.” Psalm 77:12
(III) DISCOVERING AFRESH PRECIOUS SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS
1. The way of God
“Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary;
Who is so great a God as our God?” Psalm 77:13
2. The wondrous strength of God
“You are the God who does wonders;
You have declared Your strength among the peoples.
You have with Your arm redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph.” Psalm 77:14-15
3. The profound ways of God’s leading
“Your way was in the sea,
Your path in the great waters,
And Your footsteps were not known.” Psalm 77:19
(IV) WHEN DOUBTS BECOME ONLY RHETORICAL QUESTIONS
“Will the LORD cast off forever?
And will He be favourable no more?
Has His mercy ceased forever?
Has His promises failed forevermore?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies?” Psalm 77:7-9
