(I) THE AWFUL PRACTICAL PROBLEMS OF LIFE
1. The problem of iniquity (external)
“Iniquities prevail against me…” Psalm 65:3a
2. The problem of transgression (internal)
“…as for our transgressions…” Psalm 65:3b
(II) THE AWESOME DEEDS OF GOD
1. Provision of atonement for our sins
“…you will provide atonement for them.” Psalm 65:3c
2. Invitation to dwell with the Lord
“Blessed is the man You choose,
And cause to approach You,
That He may dwell in Your courts…” Psalm 65:4
3. Answers to prayer
“By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us,
O God of our salvation…” Psalm 65:5
4. The work of sustaining the earth
a) With reference to the mountains
“Who established the mountains by His strength,
Being clothed with power” Psalm 65:6
b) With reference to the sea
“You who still the noise of the seas,
The noise of the waves…” Psalm 65:7
c) With reference to people
“They also who dwell in the farthest parts are afraid of Your signs;
You make the outgoings of the morning and evening rejoice” Psalm 65:8
d) With reference to the earth in general
“You visit the earth and water it,
You greatly enrich it;
The river of God is full of water;
You provide their grain,
For so You have prepared it.” Psalm 65:9
(III) APPROPRIATE RESPONSES TO THE AWESOME DEEDS OF GOD
1. Praise
“Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion…” Psalm 65:1a
2. Fulfilment of the Vow
“…And to You the vow shall be performed.” Psalm 65:1b
3. Satisfaction
“…We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple.” Psalm 65:4
4. Joy
“…They shout for joy, they also sing.” Psalm 65:13
