“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven. ” Psalm 32:1

INTRODUCTION

1. The problem of sin unconfessed

a) It estranges us from God
b) It incurs His wrath
c) It robs us of joy
d) It hardens the heart
e) It corrupts
f) It enslaves
g) It can destroy the person

2. A truly great blessing!

a) Forgiveness
i) Not held guilty anymore
ii) No fear of judgment
iii) Sins are passed over
iv) All forgiven
v) Restoration is possible
vi) Grateful heart of love
b) The significance of the blessing of being forgiven
i) Taken for granted
ii) Not appreciated
iii) Not fully understood

WHEN SIN IS NOT DEALT WITH
(Psalm 32:3-4)

1. When I kept silence

a) No acknowledgment
b) No confession
c) The problem of sin is ignored
d) Sin can actually grow and threaten

2. My bones grew old

a) Health affected
b) Life affected adversely
c) Sin affects many areas of our life
i) Mental health
ii) Emotional health
iii) Physical health
iv) Spiritual health

3. Sorrows to the wicked (Psalm 32:10a)

a) No repentance
b) Choosing evil
c) Evil continues to grow
d) Evil can consume the individual

4. God’s hand (Psalm 32:4)

a) Heavy upon the believer (the Psalmist David)

CONFESSION OF SIN

1. Sin acknowledged and confessed (Psalm 32:5)

2. God’s response to genuine confession

a) Transgression forgiven (Psalm 32:1)
b) Sin covered (Psalm 32:1)
c) No iniquity imputed (Psalm 32:2, 5)

CLEANSING OF SIN
(Isaiah 53)

1. The problem of Sin

a) Transgressions (Isaiah 53:5a)
b) Iniquities (Isaiah 53:5b)

2. Prophecy of what the Messiah would do

a) Borne our griefs (Isaiah 53:4a)
b) Carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4b)
c) Wounded for our transgressions (Isaiah 53:5a)
d) Bruised for our iniquities (Isaiah 53:5b)
e) He shall bear their iniquities (Isaiah 53:11c)

3. The atonement of Christ

RESTORATION OF RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

a) Don’t be like the horse or the mule
which have no understanding (Psalm 32:9)
b) They must be harnessed
or they will not obey (Psalm 32:9)
