(I) REFLECTIONS OF THE MESSIANIC SERVANT

1. The Calling of God

“The LORD has called Me from the womb;
From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.”
Isaiah 49:1

2. The Training program

“And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword;
In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, and made me like a polished shaft;
In His quiver He has hidden Me.”
Isaiah 49:2

3. Being a Servant of the Lord

a) Israel

“And He said to Me,
You are My servant, O Israel, in whom I will be gloried.”
Isaiah 49:3

b) Israel failed to glorify God.

Jesus

“And now the LORD says,
Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant,
To bring people back to Him, so that Israel is gathered to Him
(For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and My God shall be My strength”
4. Isaiah 49:5

Jesus succeeded where Israel failed miserably.

(II) THE GLORY OF THE MESSIANIC SERVANT

1. Not confined to Israel

“Too small a thing that You should be My Servant” Isaiah 49:6a

a) To raise up the tribes of Jacob

b) To restore the preserved ones of Israel

c) The Ministry of Jesus was not confined to Israel

2. The Gentiles are included

“I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6e

a) A light to the Gentiles

b) Salvation to the ends of the earth

3. Chosen by the Lord

a) Despised by some ( Isaiah 49:7c )

b) Abhorred by others ( Isaiah 49:7d )

c) Chosen by the Lord ( Isaiah 49:7h )

4. A Covenant to the people

a) Preserved ( Isaiah 49:8 )

b) A covenant to the people ( Isaiah 49:b )

c) Restoration of the earth ( Isaiah 49:c )

d) Giving of an inheritance ( Isaiah 49:d )
