You Have Ordained Strength

IN PRAISE OF A PROFOUND GOD

1. He is LORD   (Psalm 8:1a)

The Covenantal God

2. He is Lord   (Psalm 8:1b)

The Master

3. His glory is above the heavens   (Psalm 8:1c)

Greatness of God’s glory

IN AWE OF THE PROFOUND WAY HE HAS CREATED THINGS

1. God as Creator of the Universe   (Psalm 8:3)

a) The heavens are the work of His fingers
b) The moon and stars are ordained by Him

2. God as Creator of Mankind   (Psalm 8:2-3)

a) Man begins life as a baby
b) As a nursing infant he seems absolutely helpless
c) Yet He has ordained strength in infants and babes
d) That He may silence the enemy and the avenger
e) The example of Moses
i) Almost slain as an infant
ii) He grew up to lead Israel out of Egypt!

REFLECTION ABOUT MANKIND

1. What is man?   (Psalm 8:4)

a) That God should even be mindful of him
b) That God should visit him

2. Man is made lower than the angels  (Psalm 8:5)

a) A little lower than the angels
b) Yet crowned with glory and honour
i) To have dominion over the works of Your hands   (Psalm 8:6)
ii) All things are placed under his feet   (Psalm 8:6)
iii) All animals, birds, fish   (Psalm 8:7-8)

CONCLUDING ON A NOTE OF AWE AND WONDER

1. O LORD, our Lord

a) Relationship with God valued
b) Knowledge of God appreciated afresh

2. How excellent if Your name on the earth

a) In awe of God and His name
b) In wonder and praise
